The total number of children in Romania that had both parents working abroad was, at the end of June, 18,012, by 496 more children as opposed to the end of the first quarter, while the total number of children with parents working abroad reached 94,991 (by 195 children more), according to the centralized data of National Authority for the Protection of Child's Rights and Adoption (ANPDCA).
Of the 18,012 children with both parents working abroad, 16,797 were in the care of relatives up to the 4th degree, without any protection measures, the rest being placed in foster care, placement centres, or other families/people.
According to the quoted source, 63,891 children had a parent working abroad (down by 896 children, as compared to March 2018), and of these, 61,655 children were in the care of relatives up to the 4th degree, without protection measures. At the same time, as many as 1,462 children were in the special protection system, such as in the care of a foster parent, in foster care centres or other families/persons.
A number of 13,088 children also came from families where the single parent was working abroad, as opposed to the 12,493 recorded at the end of the first quarter of 2018, and of these, 11,591 children were left at home in the care of relatives up to the 4th degree, without any protection measures.
The overall number of children left behind who were in the special protection system reached 3,881.
