Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete on Thursday stressed the need for new technology in hospitals, noting that existing equipment too often becomes unusable due to a lack of servicing, maintenance or long-term planning.

"I had a practical meeting with representatives of central institutions, public hospital management and professional organisations from the medical equipment and financing sectors. The reality in hospitals is clear: the need for modern technology is high. But the problem does not stop at procurement. Too often, equipment ends up no longer being usable because of missing service contracts, inadequate maintenance or the absence of long-term planning," the minister wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the meeting reviewed successful models from other European countries and explored the possibility of using leasing for certain categories of equipment, as a solution to replace outdated technology and enable more efficient budget planning.

Following the discussions, it was decided to set up a specialised working group to analyse these options.

"As a concrete step, we decided to establish an institutional working group to examine these options within a clear, technical and practical framework. We cannot build performance through ad hoc purchases alone," the Health Minister conveyed.
