Satu Mare City Hall is implementing a European project worth 22 million euro for the modernisation of 100 bus stops, the municipality informed on its website on Monday.

'A 22 million euro urban mobility project financed from European funds. Through the project ‘Integrated Traffic Monitoring and Smart Mobility System in Satu Mare Municipality' we are setting up and modernising 100 smart public transport stops in the city. The project is financed by the North-West Regional Development Agency through the North-West Regional Programme 2021-2027 from the European Union's European Regional Development Fund,' the City Hall says.

According to the quoted source, the project is intended to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of public transport, while also contributing to the reduction of air and noise pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, by developing and optimising public transport systems and modernising the main intersections in the municipality.

Through the project, 100 smart public transport stops of various sizes will be established and modernised, of which 51 stops with a high level of facilities and 49 stops with a medium level of facilities, and a road traffic monitoring system will also be implemented in the municipality across several components. Thus, 26 signalised locations will be established or modernised in order to ensure adaptive traffic management and will also be equipped with video surveillance cameras.

At five locations, red light detection cameras will be installed, while at 10 locations there will be cameras detecting speeding.

The project completion deadline is November 2029.
