The Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Renaud Capuçon, will perform on Monday at 17:00 at the Romanian Athenaeum, as part of the George Enescu International Festival, according to the event's official website.
The programme includes Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in D minor for Two Violins and Orchestra, BWV 1043, Aria and Scherzino for Violin and Orchestra by George Enescu, and Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The soloist of the evening will be violinist Hyeonjeong Lee, laureate of the 2024 George Enescu International Competition.
At 20:00, the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne will take to the stage at the Palace Hall, under the baton of Cristian Macelaru, Artistic Director of the George Enescu International Festival and Competition, presenting a concert performance of Salome, Op. 54 by Richard Strauss.
Also on Monday, the Lumieres d'Europe Academy will launch - a musical residency project led by violinist David Grimal, featuring four guest artists, a composer-in-residence, researchers and 15 talented young musicians from across Europe. Together, they will explore the theme of "Resistance and Freedom" through music and interdisciplinary dialogue.
Running until 10 September, the programme will combine five chamber music concerts, three academic lectures and working sessions with the composer-in-residence. Events will take place at the Bucharest National University of Music and the French Institute.
The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival is being held in Bucharest and across the country until 21 September. This year's theme is "Celebrations," marking 70 years since the death of the great composer.
