A commission of experts, professionals in the areas of movable cultural heritage and restoration of cultural assets, museography and museum management, will assess the state of conservation and storage conditions of the cultural and heritage assets administered by the National Museum "George Enescu", the Ministry of Culture announced on Monday, according to Agerpres.

Following the issuance of an Order by the Minister of Culture, the commission will assess how historically valuable assets are preserved and conserved, taking into account that part of the National Museum "George Enescu" heritage has been stored for more than four years in containers placed in the museum's courtyard during the renovation of the main buildings.

"The commission of experts assesses the situation on the ground from the perspective of verification objectives regarding the state of conservation, while the control commission, appointed under the previous Ministerial Order dated March 3, 2026, focuses primarily on administrative, contractual, reporting aspects and compliance with institutional procedures," a Ministry of Culture release posted on Facebook mentioned.

Without the conclusions of each of these two commissions, the Culture Ministry underscores, there can be no result showing whether the decision to store the assets in containers was correct or not, or whether the museum's employees and management observed the procedures in force.

"Consequently, it is not ethical to answer questions regarding details of an ongoing investigation. At this moment, documentation submitted during the previous ministerial mandates, from 2021 to the present, is being reviewed. The current leadership of the ministry reacted immediately after receiving information about possible irregularities in the conservation activity carried out by the museum, ordering the necessary measures," the quoted source mentioned.

The team of the Culture Ministry assures the public opinion of full seriousness in handling this situation and appreciates the legitimate interest for the National Museum "George Enerscu" and its assets. "Information about the condition of the heritage objects will be communicated periodically. We reiterate our request not to disseminate information which is outdated as if it were current, or statements by individuals who are not mandated by the Ministry of Culture as representing our institutional position. We believe that the national heritage is a shared responsibility and we thank you for your involvement and accurate information. Waiting for the conclusions of the two commissions is a necessary exercise in patience for all of us," the institution underscored.
